Street Fighter IV Will Be On iPhone…If You Can See The Screen

Capcom has announced that they will be porting Street Fighter IV onto the iPhone.  It will feature Ken, Ryu and some other characters yet to be announced.  My problem with this is, how will you even be able to see the characters on the screen?  As with most iPhone/iTouch games, the controls will be virtual on-screen.  Being a fighter you will need a directional pad and buttons for punches and kicks.  That places the controls on the left and right sides of the screen, right on top of the 1P and 2P locations.  On top of the control issues they are trying to push the same graphics engine onto the less powerful iPhone.  The result appear less then desirable.  Why do developers keep trying this on the iPhone.  Make use of what the platform offers and stop trying to just port what you have.

The best games I have played on the iPhone so far are tower defense games and games with a simple one or two button layout.  Focus on the simple experience and not the complexity.

via Street Fighter IV coming to iPhone … why are you laughing?.

As a newbee to the I-Touch, I can’t imagine playing street fighter on this! I have a hard enough time playing blackjack and bowling but when you throw in actual moving and kicks and stuff i can see hand crampitous coming from a mile away!!

Oh well that is my two cents worth.

      Hi Stephen,
A couple of companies are working on controllers that connect to the iTouch and double as an extra battery. This might solve the control problems for these types of games but developers need to include the support for the controller in their games for it to work. We’ll see if that helps out. One thing the App Store games have going for them is the prices are ridiculously cheaper then anything else out there.
