Bayonetta Pays Homage

With so many games being made year after year, it’s no surprise to see lots of similarities between them.  It’s much easier for a game developer to work off of something that’s already proven to sell then to make something entirely new.  But Bayonetta takes it to a whole new level.

Being mostly comprised of Ex-Capcom developers, the men and women who developed Bayonetta have seen their fair share of blockbuster titles.  Everyone can see from the start that Bayonetta is very similar to the Devil May Cry series, so if you liked those games you will probably want to buy this.  But it goes much further then Devil May Cry.  Within the first 10 minuted of gameplay I have seen references to the following; Sonic the Hedgehog, Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe, God Hand (lesser known title), and of course plenty of Devil May Cry.  While I have not gotten past the first hour of this game I already want to call this a parody game more then action title.

Aside from all of the references, it is visually stimulating amazing, with cut-scenes that will have you laughing and then dropping your jaw to the floor.  The gameplay is simple, allowing you to punch and kick out combos quickly but with little effort and memorization of moves.  Other people watching you play will think you’re a gaming god performing all these flashy moves, but you know your just mashing away wildly.

If you interested in more references found in Bayonetta, Games Radar has a nice little feature with their top 30 game references found.

A more in-depth review will be coming soon so be sure to check back.
