Top 5 Snacks For Your Next Gaming Session

When you’re up late gaming into the night, you may find yourself faced with a decision that’s harder to make then choosing between “Lie” or “Doubt” in L.A. Noire.  Your stomach growls and you need to choose a food item to slay that beast.  Being faced with that exact problem the other night, I thought it might be helpful to put together some gamer friendly snacks you may want to keep around when your faced with this.

As any gamer can attest, eating a bag of Cheetos and then grabbing your controller do not make for a good combination.  But also stopping your game to go eat at the kitchen table isn’t an option here either.  This list may not be the healthiest choices but are more based on ease of snacking with minimal mess.  On to the list!

  1. Pocky Sticks – You may not be able to find these easily in your area but if you can (or don’t mind the idea of ordering food online) these chocolate covered goodies will fulfill a light sugar craving.  Originating from Japan, Pocky comes in many varieties other than chocolate.  The original snack consists of a thin cracker stick covered in chocolate.  The reason for their spot on this list is due to their design.  First starting with the box, which is made up of separate individual  packages inside, so when you open one they don’t all start losing their freshness.  Then the snack itself, having chocolate coating only on one end.  This meets our criteria for clean hands.  The same can’t be said for most chocolaty snacks  (I’m looking at you M&M’s, LIARS!).
  2. Dried Fruit – Much higher on the healthy choice here.  Not all dried fruit is created equal so you can go with any one of your choosing, but my personal favorite is the dried banana chip.  I get the satisfaction of a sweet taste and also a crunch like a potato chip, but without the grease.  Win Win.
  3. Pretzels – Buying a bag of these salted twists can be a hit or miss with some people.  I put them on the list though because they are one of the few items you will find in the snack aisle of the grocery store that isn’t greasy or covered in flavored cheese powder.  The downside here is this also may induce an intense thirst so when you make the trip to bring these to the couch you may want to grab your favorite drink too.
  4. Veggie Sticks – Carrots and celery can be added with a dip or hummus and still keep your game controller clean.  They get an extra boost for the healthiest item on this list but may not win a spot on most gamers list.  But think of it as brain food too, which may increase your synapses firing, leading to faster reaction times in that FPS (warning: I have no scientific findings to prove this)
  5. Gamer Grub – I have not personally tried this product yet but in my search to find a fifth item for this list this one continued to pop-up.  Gamer Grub as promoted by their site fits the criteria I made for this list and comes in four flavors.  The choices available seem as though they would fulfill the craving for that bag of Doritos or Cheetos.  They also seem to be packed with vitamins.  I am interested to see how this stuff actually tastes so until then we’ll leave it here on the list.
